SAFANIYA OIL RIG PROJECT
SAFANIYA OIL RIG PROJECT
The Inconel 625 products we make in Mürzzuschlag go on to be used in the Safaniya offshore oil field in Saudi Arabia. In 2017, Erne Fittings supplied countless butt-weld fittings there – including elbows, tees and reducers, alle made from Inconel 625, with dimensions 1/2″ to 6″.
The Safaniya oil field, run by the state-owned oil company Saudi Aramco, is situated around 250 km north of Dammam in the Arabian Gulf in Saudi Arabia. Discovered in 1951, production got underway there in 1957.
Today, anywhere between 1 and 1.5 million barrels of heavy crude oil are extracted there every day. With 37 billion barrels of oil resources, the Safaniya oil field is currently the largest offshore filed in the world.
Its oil rigs are currently being upgraded and extended in order to increase production capacity – a job that is seeing the old systems replaced with new electrified platforms, among other things. Saudi Aramco has brought on board various EPCIs for the individual sub-projects, who are taking care of planning, construction and installation in each case. Some of the EPCIs inculde McDermott, NPCC, Saipem, Larsen & Toubro. Erne Fittings is involved in all the sub-projects and all EPCIs that use its products.
